Its that time of year again to cast your vote for the VMworld sessions you want to see this year. Like every year, there is no shortage of great sessions to choose from so let me add a few for your consideration.

Full disclosure: On the majority of these sessions I am either presenting, co-presenting or attending.

How to Vote

Session voting is open to everyone, but you will be required to login to your vmworld.com account. If you do not have an account, you can set one up for free here. If you are interested in voting for our sessions or any others, follow these steps:

  • Access the catalog using your VMworld account.
  • Search for a session by Session ID, title, or speaker, -OR select a track or sub-track to narrow the topics you are interested in.
  • Click on the star symbol next to the Session ID to indicate your vote (see screenshot below). You can vote on as many sessions as you’d like, but only one vote per session.

This enables a flexible policy based approach to storing and managing VMs without traditional concerns about capability and capacity management bounded by LUNs on the physical infrastructure. In this session we will look at the VVol framework VMware has created, and how NetApp is using this to deliver a new generation of VM-aware storage that places the VMs in charge. SAN and NAS devices are pooled into storage containers that deliver every capability of the array (such as compression, encryption, QoS, and more) to each VM as an individual and discrete object, fully integrating with VMware’s Storage Policy Based Management interface. We will look at the policy based consumption model as well as the specific technical components of VVols that enable this functionality: Protocol Endpoints, VASA Providers, Storage Containers, virtual datastores, and more.
